Military hackers
"The DGA (Intelligence Department in the Romanian Ministry of Defense) has become the most powerful secret service in the country after hiring people able to implant viruses in target computers and fight in IT wars. Two years after the military secret CD scandal, the Ministry of Defense established a department specializing in countering IT security incidents. General Francisc Radici, a chief of the DGIA, is head of the department. The Ministry settled over 3 million Euro for the special hardware and software equipment. Because of the information unveiled in ZIUA in 2006 more than 80 officers and generals got sanctioned. But the investigators turned against the press too, harassing journalists and even sending them behind bars. The Ministry's new department classifies IT security incidents in big, medium and small. The most dangerous one implies unauthorized access to a hacking system, assails on the IT infrastructure, unauthorized network sniffers, backdoor penetration of systems, storing of information classified as secret of state in systems connected to public networks. Romanian law allows the secret services to search computers for alleged terrorist threats. Even Germany wishes a similar legislation.
